everyone’s hurting during these recession times, including Michael Jackson! he’s apparently auctioning off a bunch of his crap he has hoarded throughout the years:
In April, an extraordinary auction will provide an unprecedented look into the private world of Michael Jackson. More than 2,000 items, ranging from personal effects and costumes to pieces from Jackson’s private art collection as well as fittings and furnishings from his Neverland ranch, will be up for sale at a four-day public auction at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles.
Given the continuing fascination that the self-styled King of Pop exerts over the public imagination, Darren Julien, the affable Los Angeles-based auctioneer of celebrity merchandise who is directing the sale, expects a media circus to descend on the hotel as well as tribes of devoted Jackson fans from all corners of the globe. Select lots are to be sent on a touring exhibition that will arrive in Dublin and London in March before a full-scale exhibition opens for one week in Beverly Hills prior to the sale.
The idea, Julien says, is to create the kind of spectacle with which Michael Jackson has been so often associated throughout his career. This is the first sale that the superstar has sanctioned of his property. Michael took legal action in 2007 to try, unsuccessfully, to halt an auction held in Las Vegas of Jackson family items that had been acquired by New Jersey businessman Henry Vaccaro.
The sale also includes vintage video game machines, as well as Jackson’s collection of 18th- and 19th-century art. There are books about Disney, the Three Stooges, Peter Pan and Alfred Hitchcock, as well as a collection of black history books, including the autobiography of Malcolm X. Then there is a selection of his own stage costumes, dating back from the days of the Jackson 5 through to the present. There is one of the fedoras he wore in the video for Billie Jean; a pair of trousers so studded with diamanté that they feel as heavy as chain mail; there are customised military jackets, featuring insignia surely acquired on his global travels – including badges from the Royal Air Force and the Thai Narcotics Bureau.
hilarious and awesome, some people are going to walk away with MJ’s treasures! i wish i could afford to get these for pk:

MTV News’ budget was severely reduced for 2008. They can no longer to afford my salary, which means I’m out of a job at the end of the month. I’ll write more about it later — I’m planning a personal, gaming-focused blog — but I wanted to make sure people knew, if they’d heard anything.

party planning for pk’s birthday February 5, 2009

in just a few days, pk will turn yet another year older. i am throwing him a party at our apartment in celebration and of course, it will be horror themed. in previous years, his birthday has mysteriously coincided with the season premier of ‘Lost.’ therefore, for two years in a row, pk has enjoyed a ‘Lost’ themed birthday, Dharma cakes included:
two years before that, i made a masterpiece teenage mutant ninja turtle cake in the scummiest dorm kitchen of the University of Illinois. sometimes i surprise myself:
this year, i am doing something different. i am making him a ‘Friday the 13th’ cake in celebration of the upcoming remake release next week. decorations and many appetizers will be horror themed as well.
stay tuned for the epic themed party ideas and birthday cake!

tis the season for horror movie remakes! Friday the 13th releases next friday the 13th, (how clever!). there have been a ton of horror movie remakes before then. and now, they are going to recreate one of my favorite horror films: A Nightmare on Elm Street.
i am always open to new ideas, concepts, and interpretations. however, it saddens me to hear that Robert Englund will no longer be the face of ‘Freddy Krueger.’ the producers, Andrew Form & Brad Fuller, are devising a way to update the crimes Krueger committed as well:
As you may remember, he victimized the children of Elm Street, leading the neighborhood’s parents to gang up and burn him alive. In the original film he’s definitely a child killer, but there’s more hinted at. As originally envisioned, those hints were less subtle. Says Form: “The original idea of the movie was that he was a molester and not a killer at all, but the McMartin trial happened and everything changed.”
While they won’t come down on whether Freddy was a child molester, a child murderer or both in their version, Fuller does acknowledge that making him a legendary figure in this day and age is tougher. “If there were a child killer in 2009 it would be on the internet and everyone would know about it,” he said. “The concept of the original A Nightmare on Elm Street wouldn’t work. The concept of the movie is the kids discovering what happened, and the kids paying the price for their parent’s sins. What we’re struggling with is how do we have his crimes in a way where the kids can’t just type in ‘Freddy Krueger‘ [into Google] and come up with his arrest record.”
they do not have a director yet as well. created by horror mastermind, Wes Craven ‘named Freddy Krueger after a kid who bullied him in school and to have based his appearance on a disfigured hobo who scared him as a youth.’ he claimed to have drawn inspiration for this movie from 3 separate incidents ‘involving young Cambodians, survivors of Pol Pot’s genocidal “purges,” all of whom died while apparently in the throes of a horrific nightmare. the story goes that first these young, otherwise healthy people would have a horrible nightmare, then refuse to sleep for as long as possible; when they finally fell asleep from sheer exhaustion they awoke with screaming and writhing, then died from a heart attack. In the last incident, the young man used a variety methods to try and stay awake that were incorporated into the film, including a hidden coffee pot. some of the dialog between Nancy and her parents is based on this young man’s attempts to convince his unbelieving parents that going to sleep would kill him.’
the best part…the new film will begin production early May in Chicago, my hometown. maybe i need to visit back home in attempts to become an extra?!?!?
